Studies on the Wild Lycoris radiata HERB . (1)

Abstract
The morphological, ecological and embryological characteristics of native Lycoris radiata HERB. were investigated to develop as an ornamental plant.
The results are summarized as follows;
1. Five flowers were bloomed on the top of about 50cm-tall-flower stalk, and their flowering was umbel-like shape. Their colour was bright red. Full flowering appeared around Sep. 20.
2. The phyllotaxy of the leaves was alternate, and their shape was linear or lanceolate with deep green colour. The flowering was ceased in the middle of Oct., and new leaves began to develop and withered completely in late May in the next year. There were 3 or 4 seeds in a capsule, and the average weight of the seed was 0.65g. The seed matured in late October.
3. The flower bud initiation began around May 15 and ended about June 18.
4. The meiosis prophase of microspore mother cell was about Aug. 17 and the meiosis began around Aug. 30, but the cell division process was abnormal. The megaspore mother cell developed fully Aug. 17, and it tetraded about Sept. 4.
